After stopping off in Mumbai and Singapore for a few days where I lived up the hectic city lifestyle it was amazing to finally arrive in New Zealand and see green land (also a bit of a relief to be out of 30 degree heat!). Despite spending a weekend in Wales since leaving Chamonix I feel that I have been out of the wilderness for a bit too long.
I wrote the below after walking up Mt Maunganui where you can look back across Ocean Beach, the sea and nearby Tauranga.
The end of nowhere
At the end of nowhere
The land is not printed with the marks of feet
And the absence of he, she, they or you
Negates the need for I.
At the end of nowhere there is earth and sky
And it is possible to be absolutely alone.
